Getting Started at Revelation Health
My intention here is to give you a brief overview of how things may work as we get started together. Not everyone’s path will look exactly the same, but hopefully what follows will answer some basic questions you may have about the very start of our time together.
Once we set up an initial appointment, I will send you several intake forms that ask about your health history, your exercise history, your lifestyle, and your goals. I will ask you to bring these completed forms with you to your first appointment so that we can discuss their content and begin to get to know one another.
Your Functional Movement Screening (FMS) will also happen during this appointment. The FMS is a series of simple exercises that allow me to observe your seven basic patterns of movement and identify any areas of tightness, weakness or asymmetry that may exist. Having this information will allow me to program corrective exercises (if necessary) for you so that we are not building your strength upon a compromised foundation. It sounds daunting, but really it’s just a tool for me to gain insight into your body so that I can provide the safest, most effective ways to help you reach your goals. The results of the screening, as well as the information from your intake forms and our subsequent conversations, will help me begin to customize a fitness program for you.
The next three appointments are dedicated to learning your new program. Maybe you have a long history of great form and movement in the gym — great! Maybe you’ve never done anything remotely like this before — also great! Having three appointments to customize the learning process to your needs gives us the flexibility to take things at whatever pace is right for you. At the end of these four initial visits (FMS and three program visits) you’ll have gained a wealth of knowledge about yourself, your body, and how to safely begin your fitness journey!
What happens from here? That depends on what you’re looking for. Some people prefer to work out at home and have regular check-ins with me (every six weeks or so) to create progressive programming for them to do independently. Some people really like the personal training experience and choose to work with me in one or more private sessions each week, progressing movements as we go. Some people are working with me in-person each week on both physical movement and nutrition/wellness accountability, and some people are focused on working with me on a more dedicated and comprehensive weight-loss program.
No matter which of these options is right for you, the purpose of my work is always the same: to provide you with a fitness program that is safe and appropriate, challenging and fun, and will help you reach your goals.
